Foundation Workshop  

  • 26th November, 3rd December 2018 9:30am - 4:30pm

  • £150 (including cost of manuals)

Who is this Recommended for?

- Professionals who need to use Makaton in their work
- People who require in-depth Makaton training
- Essential party of entry criteria for Makaton Regional Tutor training

What will I Learn?

- Signs and symbols from the Core Vocabulary Stages 1-4, as well as the additional vocabulary
- Research into sign and symbol use
- Symbol design themes
-Overview of alternative systems of communication

What will I Receive?

- Manuals (includes the signs and symbols learnt)
- Pocket book of signs and symbols
- Certificate of attendance

 Beginners' Workshop

  • 19th, 26th January, 2nd, 9th February 2019, 10am - 12:45pm

  • Hillsborough Village Centre, 7 Ballynahinch Road, Hillsborough BT26 6AR

  • £100 (including cost of manuals). A discount is given to members of the same family attending

Who is this Recommended for?

- Family members, carers and workers who need to use Makaton at home and in work
- If you are interested in becoming a Makaton Local Tutor, this is an essential part of the entry criteria

What will I Learn?

- Practical Introductory Workshop
- Signs and symbols from the Core Vocabulary Stages 1-4, as well as the additional vocabulary
- Methods for implementing and using Makaton

What will I Receive?

- Manuals (includes the signs and symbols learnt)
- Certificate of attendance

Additional Information

- Participants must be able to attend all sessions.
- A quota of 7 participants is required for the workshop to take place. Numbers are limited to 15 people. Childcare is not provided. Refreshments are provided.
- A £30 non-refundable deposit is due on booking. Full payment is required by the closing date of 3rd January 2019.

Who is this Recommended for?

- Family members, carers and workers who need to use Makaton at home and in work
- If you are interested in becoming a Makaton Local Tutor, this is an essential part of the entry criteria

What will I Learn?

- Practical Introductory Workshop
- Signs and symbols from the Core Vocabulary Stages 1-4, as well as the additional vocabulary
- Methods for implementing and using Makaton

What will I Receive?

- Manuals (includes the signs and symbols learnt)
- Certificate of attendance

Makaton Refresher Session

  • 2nd March 2019, 9:30am - 4pm

  • Unit 8, Lisnaskea Business Complex, Drumbrughas North, Lisnaskea, Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, BT92 0PE

  • £55 (including refreshments)

Who is this Recommended for?

- Participants must have completed either the Makaton Beginners' workshop  or the Makaton Foundation workshop. The aim of the sessions are to give opportunity for practice of the signs and symbols already learned and to grow in confidence in using Makaton in conversation and sentences. 

What will I Learn?

- Refresher Sessions are also helpful preparation for the next level of training, either the Follow-up workshop (if you attended the Beginners) or the Enhancement workshop (if you attended the Foundation), which will be advertised in the near future.

Additional Information

- £20 non-refundable deposit requires on booking. Remaining balance of £35 to be made by 16th February.
- Lunch and refreshments are included

- Professionals who need to use Makaton in their work
- People who require in-depth Makaton training

What will I Learn?

- Improve and develop signing and symbol skills
- Signs and symbols from the Core Vocabulary Stages 5-8
- Develop translation skills using signs and symbols
- Adapting communication to suit the user

What will I Receive?

- Manuals
- Pocket book of signs and symbols
- Certificate of attendance

Additional Information

- Participants must have previously completed the Foundation workshop and should bring their certificate on day 1.
- Participants must be able to attend all sessions.
- A quota of 5 participants is required for the workshop to take place. Numbers are limited to 10 people. Childcare is not provided. Refreshments are provided and participants must make their own lunch arrangements.
- A £50 non-refundable deposit is due by the closing date of 3rd May 2019. Remaining balance to be paid on day 1.
